Susy and family, we just heard of Paul's death. Please know you and the family are in our thoughts and prayers. We are gifted to have known Paul. George so appreciated all Paul did in supporting him during his tenure at Paul Smith's College. Yours and Paul's friendship is a lasting treasure. So wish we could be there in person. To the Cantwell Family,
It was great to see you earlier this week, I just wish it was under different circumstances. Paul was a wonderful gentleman, and I learned a great deal from him as a Community Bank board member. My deepest sympathies, and know that your family are already terrific stewards of his legacy. All the best,
Scott Kingsley

Dear Susy and family, I was so saddened to learn about Paul. I will always remember him as a first-class, caring and all-around great man. At our meetings, I loved hearing about all of you and your travel adventures. His support for Paul Smith’s College, and for me personally, was something I will always be grateful for. My first experience with Paul was to sit on the opposite side of a bargaining table in a contractual dispute. He was shrewd, smart, well-prepared, gracious, and fair. I couldn't help but like him, and I certainly respected him.
Over the years we became friends. We would chat at parties. Sometimes at length. He had an intellect that spanned the globe. A thoughtful man who saw the big picture. He chose words carefully and always spoke them with kindness.
I came to know Susy well. Her old-school European refinement charmed me; I knew I was in the presence of someone with important values. We have seemed to know one another for eternity.
Susy, you have a wonderful and loving family. And many loving friends. Let us buoy you up in your grief and loss.
I don't minimize the grief and loss. Death is devastating. You are a role model to many of us, including me. Help us know how to deal with loss.
Blessings on you,
Calvin Luther Martin

Suzy, Julia, Kathleen and Ginger, I am so sorry for your loss. When I moved back to the North Country, Paul took me in to practice law with him for 6 and half years before I moved away. He was a great, gentle man whose love and pride for the four of you was evident every day. I will miss him, but be thankful that I knew him and was able to spend time with he and Suzy in the and out of the law office. With my sympathies, Jonathan J. Reiss

Mrs. Cantwell and family, please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. I had the very good fortune to meet Paul 13 years ago and interacted with him many times since then. Right from the start he made a huge impression upon me. What a personable and caring gentleman!!! His respect for others and devotion to our North Country communities was unwavering. Paul led by example. He brought the best out in people and made those around him better. I feel so fortunate that Paul allowed me to share part of his life. I will cherish those memories!!
