Obituary of Gregory Howard Marshall

Gregory H. Marshall age 65, of North Bangor, NY passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 17, 2022, at his home. Arrangements are with Frary Funeral Home in Malone, NY. Calling hours will be on Monday, May 23, 2022, from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Frary Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with burial to follow at Morningside Cemetery in Malone, NY. Greg was born December 10, 1956, in Malone, NY to the late Howard W. Marshall and Marie Longshore. Greg was a 1974 graduate of Franklin Academy, who participated in three sports during his high school career (football, spring track, and wrestling, in which he became a Section 10 champion). He attended St. Lawrence University where he received his Bachelor's degree in Physical Education. Greg continued to participate athletically in football, indoor track, wrestling, and outdoor track. He was inducted into the SLU hall of fame as part of the 1976 football team, where he played defensive tackle. Greg finished his college education with a Master's degree from SLU. Greg was recruited and invited to participate in the sport of rugby for the Saranac Lake Mountaineers in 1978, where he went on to play rugby for the next 25 years. In 2019, Greg was honored and presented with the "Black Jacket", which signified the local rugby's "hall of fame". In 1978, Greg began his teaching career at Malone Central School District as a Driver's Education instructor, then a Physical Education Teacher, which began his career of educating children for the next 41 years. Greg coached football for 41 years, with the last 23 years as head coach at the Varsity level. Greg was the head coach for the Huskies JV wrestling team for over 20 years and holds the record for winning more than 100 dual-meet matches in a row, which still stands today. Greg also coached JV softball from 2001 to 2009 and took over the Varsity position in 2010 until his retirement in 2019, where he earned 8 Section 10 Class A championship crowns, including 2 undefeated central division seasons. Greg was enjoying retirement to the fullest. At home, Greg enjoyed spending time with his dogs (Gunnar and Cooper) and cats (Tilly, MJ, Patches, and Gracie), taking in views of nature from his deck, family gatherings, and doing his crossword puzzles. He also enjoyed spending time at camp, fishing and floating in the pool, weekly outings with his daughter Carly, and visiting with his brother and friends in town. Greg's favorite activity, though, was anything involving spending time with the love of his life, Julie. Greg is survived by his beloved wife, the former Julie Kelly of Massena, NY. They were united in marriage on June 21, 2003, when they decided to blend their beautiful families. Greg is also survived by his daughters, Morgan LePage and her husband Chuck of North Bangor, NY, Emily Aubrey, and her husband Jason of Brushton, NY, Annie Sharlow, and her companion Dustin Bullock of Edwards, NY, and Carly Marshall of Malone, NY; his sons Cody Marshall and his wife Beth of Quechee, VT, Aaron Sharlow and his fiancé Carly Taylor of Malone, NY, and Duncan Marshall and his fiancé Eryn Revette of Malone, NY; a brother, Howard “Brick” Marshall and his wife Lisa of Malone, NY; two sisters, Barbara LaBombard and her husband Darrell, of Malone, NY and Carolyn Marby and her husband James, of California; along with grandchildren Charlie LePage, Aubree Vail, Paeton Griswold, Taylor Recore, Harper LePage, Hadley Marshall, Cadence Aubrey, and Mia LePage. Greg was predeceased by his parents, Howard W. and Marie Marshall; a brother, Alan W. Marshall; and a sister in infancy, Jane Marie Marshall. Condolences may be made online at fraryfuneralhomes.com.
