Obituary of Chester A. Vinch

Chester A. "Pete" Vinch, 78, of North Syracuse, passed away on Friday evening, January 21, 2022. He was born in Ogdensburg to the late Chester Allen and Esther Marie (LaMere) Vinch. He served in the US Army. He joined the Ogdensburg Police Department and in 1968, he joined the North Syracuse Police Department, becoming Sergeant Vinch. He joined the Cicero Police Department and at one time served as interim chief and investigator before retiring on August 27, 2005. For 30 years, he was a loss prevention agent for Sears Roebuck and in retirement, with his sons, ran a private investigation service. Pete was a member, Past Commander and lastly Chaplain of American Legion Post 1297. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Terry, and his wife of 48 years, the former Norma Roberta Wells. Surviving are his sons, Peter, Craig, Dana (Denise), and Brent (Cathy) Vinch; siblings, Gail (Tom) Callahan, Tim (Carrie) Vinch and Clara (David) Gryczka; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Family will great friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 28th and from 10 am to 1 pm on Saturday, January 29th with family sharing remembrances at 1 pm at Fergerson Funeral Home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse. Burial, at a later date, will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Rose of Lima Church, 407 South Main Street, North Syracuse 13212.
