Obituary of Lucia Emily Wallace

Lucia Emily Doud Wallace, 106, of Willsboro NY, died peacefully on December 20, 2021, at her home, under the loving care of her daughter, Cynthia, living with her since the time of the 2012 death of her greatly beloved husband of 74 years, Edmund Whiting Wallace. She was born June 1, 1915, in Malone, NY to Alice and Henry Irving Doud. She ultimately enrolled in Syracuse University where she earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts, having distinguished herself as recipient of the National Sculpture Award, and where she met her future husband, who went on to become Chief Landscape Architect of EXPO ’67 Montreal and thereafter Chief Landscape Architect for the Canadian National and Historic Parks. She always provided great strength and support to her equally talented husband and they were completely devoted to one another. Their combined artistic gifts were passed on to their two daughters, Marjorie Alison Wallace (Rhode Island School of Design), artist (deceased), and Dr. Cynthia Day Wallace (B.A. cum laude, Mt Holyoke College; PhD, international law, Cambridge University), artist, author, international lawyer and former UN diplomat, Geneva, Switzerland. Her own artistic talents, so evident in her masterpiece paintings, were also recognized through her accreditation as a national flower show judge. She was honored on her 106th birthday by NY Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, as recorded in the 117th Congressional Record. In addition to her daughter Cynthia, she is survived by her two grandchildren, her great granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. Private memorial ceremonies will take place at the extended family’s summer home at an appropriate time, with burial in the Doud/Wallace family plot in the North Bangor Cemetery.
