Obituary of Betsy Sue Mitchell Oddey

A Funeral Service for Betsy S. Mitchell Oddey, age 58, of Burke, NY will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021 at 10:00AM at Chateaugay United Methodist Church with Pastor Cora Smith. Calling hours will be held on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Frary Funeral Home, Malone. Burial will follow in the Burke Center Cemetery following the service. Betsy passed away on Wednesday afternoon, December 8, 2021 at The University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, VT. Betsy was born August 25, 1963 in Malone, NY to the late Clark Mitchell and Shirley Perry Mitchell. She graduated high school from Chateaugay Central School. After high school, she attended Plattsburgh State University. On July 31, 1999 she was united in marriage to Thomas Oddey at the Burke United Methodist Church. He predeceased her on March 23, 2006. Together they worked as New York State Correction Officers. Betsy was most recently working at Upstate Correctional Facility. Betsy is survived by her son, Nicholas Oddey of Burke, NY; five sisters, Mary Lou and her husband, Kenneth Vondell of Malone, N.Y., Trudy and her husband Philip Ross of Brushton, N.Y., Joelle and her husband, Roland Poirier and Holly and her husband, Eugene Poirier, all of North Bangor, N.Y., and Deborah Mitchell of Lake Placid, N.Y.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas M. Oddey; her parents, Clark and Shirley Mitchell; a brother Bernard “Buddy” Mitchell; and her nephew, Jon Paul Poirier. She was a member of the Malone Elks Lodge, Chateaugay American Legion, and the Malone Star Lighters. She enjoyed swimming, interior decorating, gardening, antiques, cooking, watching hockey, and attending her son’s sporting events.
