Obituary of Rudolph Delano Johnson

Rudolph Delano Johnson, 72, of Malone, NY, passed away at his home on June 28, 2021. A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, 2pm, at Frary Funeral Home in Malone, NY. Rudolph was born on November 13, 1948, to the late Andrew and Revoyda (Cato) Johnson in Muskogee, OK. Rudolph and his siblings traveled and lived with their parents in France and Germany before settling in Trenton, NJ. Rudolph was educated in the Trenton Public School System, graduating from Trenton Central High School in 1967. Rudy, as he was affectionately known, served our country in the United States Army. After being drafted, he served in the Vietnam War. He continued to serve for 30 years in the New Jersey/Vermont National Guard. Rudy was proud of his education; he studied Architecture at North Carolina State University and Shaw University and attained his Bachelor of Science degree in Urban Planning/Architecture from Rutgers University and Masters degree in Architecture from Princeton University. He was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc and the American Institute of Architects. Rudy was very accomplished as an architect. He had several successful projects realized in the Trenton/Princeton, NJ area; as Project Manager/Field Supervisor (Architect), he coordinated the restoration and renovation of the historic Mill Hill section of Trenton, where he resided for many years before moving to Malone, New York in 1989. In Malone, he worked on many projects, such as the redesign of the Poupore house. Rudy was a licensed pilot. He worked as an energy analyst out of the Cornell Cooperative Extension office in Malone. He also worked as a manager at Corning in Canton, NY and was involved in the production of the glass used in the space shuttles for NASA. In 2010, he ran for NY State Assembly in the 114th District. He was a small business owner and consultant. He assisted in the reconstruction efforts in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria. He met and married Kaye Sneed in 1984 and they have one son, Rudolph D. Johnson II. He helped raise his stepson, Anthony Woodcock and loved being a grandfather to Anthony’s daughter, Alex. Rudy enjoyed watching movies, flying, skiing, the outdoors, science, and technology. He was knowledgeable in many areas. Rudy is predeceased by his parents Andrew J. and Revoyda Z. Johnson, his wife, Kaye Sneed Johnson, and his brothers Ronald DeWayne and Willard Charles Johnson. He leaves to honor his memory his son, Rudolph Johnson II of Malone, NY; his stepson, Anthony Woodcock of New York City, NY; his granddaughter, Alexandria Woodcock of NYC, NY; his sister, Gae L.(Pedro) Santiago of Trenton, NJ; his brothers, Andrew J. (BJ) Johnson III of Baton Rouge, LA and Tony D. (Ramona) Johnson of Orlando, FL;; his nieces and nephews, Rosita (James) Santiago Peters of Ewing, NJ; Gail (Frank Krempl) Mandelaro of Yardley, PA; Mack Andrew and Je’Koby Prenell Johnson of Baton Rouge, LA; Pedro Santiago Jr of Mt. Laurel, NJ; Noel (Rita) Santiago of Hamilton, NJ; Rhonda (Reginald) Painter of Ventress, LA; Caryn Johnson; Yolanda and Tammera Johnson of Orlando, FL; several grand nieces, nephews, cousins, as well as many friends and associates.
