One of my siblings just ran across Bill’s obituary. Bill was a cousin on my dad’s side( Harold Nichols.). My favorite memory of him is his love of telling jokes and how he always laughed so hard at his own jokes! Beth Nichols Johnson

Bill entered the USAF on October 21, 1960 at Harlingen AFB, TX as a member of Navigator training class 61-16N-A2. We graduated on 7 Sep 1961, as fully qualified navigators. We immediately were sent to Keesler AFB, MS for additional training as electronic warfare officers. After finishing ECM school in mid 1962, Bill was assigned to to the B-52 squadron at Bergstrom AFB, TX as a Navigator/Electronic Warfare Officer, while I was assigned to the B-52 Wing at Turner AFB, GA. Bill was one of my classmates whose humor always kept us in stitches, and we kept in constant touch throughout my AF career and his years at Clarkson. Bill finally just got tired of the endless military harassment of we aircrews during the height of the Cold War and opted to go back to civilian life. He was a truly excellent navigator and electronic warfare officer whom I flew with many, many times. The Air Force's loss was Clarkson's gain for sure. He was as fine an officer as any I ever served with and I was proud to have been his lifetime friend. May you rest in eternal peace, old buddy!

Bill and I were classmates since about 8th grade. We shared many memories and a few passions, love of life and country for starters. He loved Brasher and was proud of what he accomplished there. Rest easy my friend.

In Memory of Bill Lewis - My sisters and I wish to share Our Deepest Sympathy for the entire family. Bill was a wonderful man as you all know - Our parents (Ken and Harriet Sharlow) as well as the 3 of us were blessed to know Bill. He was closest to my sister Mary Burch, as a very good friend, often extending himself with helping her with whatever she needed help with. He was a blessing to all who came to know him and he will greatly be missed.
Sincerely,
Mary, Susan and Jane Sharlow

Bill was a good friend who always had messages of cheer. We remember him fondly from Canton ATI where we worked and later shared many a good meal and a drink at Erins Isle in Brasher. Sincere condolences to his family and friends.

"The engines are silent
The '52's gone
From my life forever
So I sing this song...
'Twas a long time ago
And a long ways away
The '52 screamed
Through our lives every day
And we stood toe to toe
With the old Russian bear
And I spent my time
Way up in the air
We were young
We were young"

I came to know Bill as a fellow member of the OFCC. Hearing his stories, hearing his opinions, and experiencing his presentation of them over coffee on Sherman Hill was a cherished experience. The SOB (Sweet Old Bill) will be sadly missed by many; knowing him made our lives just a little better, more colorful, and richer. Rest in peace, Bill.

My last few years at the college i had the pleasure of seeing Bill daily for coffee in Nevaldine Hall . He was an "American Original, a very smart and funny guy who held " court" in the faculty lounge and was anything but shy with his opinions .
For those who may not know ,Bill was a bit of a humorous homespun poet too. I distinctly remember President Joe Kennedy naming him POET LAUREATE which was a hoot !
We came to be friends and even though we may not always have agreed , it was a genuinely sincere , civil and entertaining experience .
RIP old colleague, you made life interesting
