Obituary of Sandra Jean Pfaff

Sandra Jean Pfaff born on May 24th, 1946 in Somerville, New Jersey passed away on Thursday November 5, 2020 at The Alice Center in Malone, New York. Daughter to Ernest and Hester (Tichenor) Pfaff. She graduated from DePauw University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She enlisting in the Army her senior year and started a career as an Operating Room Nurse. Being in the service introduced her to a love of traveling. She was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany and visited many countries in that area. She was in the Army Nurse Corps from 1968 to 1972. After the Army she started a new career in Infection Control that also allowed for movement and living in several different states. She enjoyed working at several major city hospitals in Miami, Florida; Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Rochester, New York and Boston, Massachusetts. She finished her career in Infection Control at AHMC in Malone, New York – where she was affectionately known as the “Germ Queen”. She also volunteered with Orbis International, a non-profit organization that did eye surgery on an airplane in third world countries. She was in charge of the pre arrival crew that educated the local doctors and nurses on infection control. This allowed her to visit Bulgaria, China, Columbia, Hong Kong, Mali, Mexico, Mongolia, Panama, Peru, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. She is survived by her brother, Bill Pfaff (Tanya) of Malone, NY; Sister Patricia Sutton (Doug) of Miami, Florida; nephews – Evan (Mary) of Hilo, Hawaii; Paul (Kedric) of Portland, Oregon; niece - Alexa of Malone, NY; and great nephews – Evry and Cooper, great niece - Darci.
