My memory of David takes place over dinner one special night a year ago, when as a guest of Camp Runamok, I gratefully accepted his invitation on the occasion of my first return to Lake Simond, Tupper Lake, in 20 years. He was tolerant of my rambling memories of the area and specifically of my detailed account of my childhoood as a summer resident, coincidentallly living on the property immediately adajacent to his and Russ'.camp (at that time owned by my parents, Dorothy and Stephen Story). It was special for me to receive such a warm welcome back to the area and to share common experiences -- despite my being older by 15 years. It was clear to me that he cherished his beautiful home and partner. I offer my sypathy to the family and friends who survive and lovingly remember him.My thoughts are with you Russ.

Tupper and neighbors are in our thoughts and prayers. Stay strong, and wear masks, they really do work. Love, David T.

My first memory of David is him holding my hand in our grandparents' back yard, watching a train go by. We shared a birthday, so we blew out many a candle together at joint celebrations growing up. I admired him from the beginning--though just 5 years older than me, he always seemed more adult than kid. So smart, and hard working, he seemed to move through life with purpose, making everything he touched better and more beautiful. It was wonderful to see the life he had created for himself when I visited him in college, full of friends and laughter and, always, food. To this day, my favorite gravy at Thanksgiving is one he made almost 30 years ago. Seeing the love he shared with Russ and his Cronin family made my heart glad, and Alex and I will treasure the visits we shared. The news of his death has been jarring--I will miss his happy, gentle smile.
With heavy hearts--Melanie and Alex

David was one of the kindest, most giving, most welcoming persons I have ever known. All he ever wanted to do was to make people happy. I learned so much from him... including how to make someone feel special just by a simple "Hi, Beautiful..." whenever greeting someone in person or on the phone. Thoughtful and specific in his word choices and delivery, you always knew where you stood with David. David, I will miss you more than you would ever be able to imagine. Godspeed, Kid.
My thoughts are with all who were touched by his spirit.

Although I didn't know David well, I know he was loved. I could see love in Russ's eyes every time David was mentioned; I can hear it in all the tributes from Tupper Lake. I am so sorry.

When my family moved to Atlanta from Indiana David was the first person to welcome me to the south. And he was probably only 4 years old. I have so many childhood and adolescent memories of him. His passing has come as such a shock. I extend my condolences to his entire family. A kind and giving soul lost way too soon.
With my deepest sympathies,
Christy Shannon
