Obituary of Ronald Thomas Hartshorn

Ronald Thomas Hartshorn born August 13, 1941 to Harold and Catherine Hartshorn , passed away peacefully at his home On Beaver Creek, DePyster New York on January 15, 2020. He was 78 years old. He is survived by and will be sorrowfully missed by his brother Dicken, his wife of 57 years Elaine and there their children Janice ,Ronald Jr. and Benjamin, daughter-in-law Nicole . Grandchildren Stephanie , Claira and Grace Hartshorn as well as many nieces and nephews. Born in Cohoes New York, Ron lived in many places in his youth from New York City to Arkansas but his roots settled in East Orange New Jersey where he met Elaine and started his family. Ron received a full scholarship to Alfred University Where he studied ceramics and received his Masters in fine arts. Ron spent several years as a college ceramics professor and prolific artist with works once featured at the Smithsonian. In 1970 Ron purchased 180 acres of land sight unseen that would be the Family homestead until this day. There he built a home ,pottery kiln and a started a successful garage while raising his family. Ron spent 20 years teaching Commercial art in Essex county votec in Newark New Jersey. He touched the lives of hundreds of inner-city students. His class was one of the most popular. After his retirement Ron spent many summers enjoying the homestead with his family. Building Additions, cutting wood, planting trees ,gardening ,Taking gator rides watching the birds and strumming his guitar.
