Obituary of Betty A. Myatt

Word has been received of the death of Betty A. Myatt, age 64, of Paul Smiths, NY Strength, Courage and Sunshine, these are the words that would best describe this child of God who answered The Lord's call to return home on May 12, 2009. Betty Myatt started her amazing journey in Oklahoma, born to John and Lavada Worden with two brothers John and Dean, she entered into to what she lovingly called her "Army brat " life. Upon joining the Air Force with her brother John, she met and married her husband of 42 years, Howard Myatt, and returned to Saranac Lake to raise a family. Over the years, Betty used her quite strength and loving touch to guide her three children, Howard, Bonnie and Shannon, three grandchildren, Shandalee, Dakota and Chantelle, three nephews, John-Kyle, Andy and Joshua and three nieces Danielle, Gabriel and Judy through all of life's challenges. She was there to comfort her niece Judy Law in times of need and her cousins Dale and Allen Roberts when storms passed through their family's lives as well. A soft hug, a gentle smile was never asked for but always there when most needed. She retired from Franklin Correctional Facility when cancer struck her in 2003 and she again showed the world her courage and strength as she faced each challenge with determination, humor and a smile. With the help of Peanut and Steve Barber, she pulled the family through the loss of her husband in 2006 and continued her fight to beat the odds. Her love of family, horses, photography, gardening and cooking were a never ending source of discussion with all those in the medical field that helped her through her fight. When the Lord called her home, she gave comfort and gentle reassurance to all those that surrounded her and parted with a gentle smile. She set the bar for her family and her legacy lives on. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, May 16, 2009 from 2PM -4PM and 7PM - 9PM. A funeral service will take place at 1:00 PM on Sunday May 17, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Saranac Lake, with Rev. Maggie McCarey officiating. Burial will follow at McColloms Cemetery in Paul Smiths. Friends wishing to remember Betty A. Myatt may make memorial contributions to Paul Smiths Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
