Obituary of Paul Dudley Hagar

Paul Dudley "Pete" Hagar of 93 Old Military Rd, Saranac Lake, and Jay, N.Y. died Sunday, May 10, 2009 at Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake. Born in Jersey City N.J. February 25, 1926 the son of Paul J. Hagar and Katherine (Bell) Hagar. He spent most of his early years in Rutherford where he was a local track star and high-jump champion. Paul was graduated from Bradley University in 1950 with a BME (Bachelor of Music Education); and received his Masters from Montclair Teachers College in 1956. He also attended Julliard School of Music in NYC and Eastman School of Music in Rochester. Paul was in the U.S. Army 1955-1956. He played trombone in the Jeep Band at Ft. Hood, Texas and taught music to Army and Navy personnel in Ft. Monroe. He played in bands greeting foreign dignitaries. Paul taught music at in Illinois Schools and in Rutherford schools until his retirement. He was President of the N.J. Bandmasters Assoc. for two years. Paul enjoyed trout and bass fishing. He was a member of the American Contract Bridge League achieving the rank of Bronze Life Master. He was also an avid stamp collector and an active member of the Clifton, N.J. Stamp Club. Paul is survived by his wife of 20 years: Linda (Baumann Winester) Hagar; and by his four children: Paul J. Hagar II and Patricia of Wurtsboro, N.Y.; Glen A. Hagar and Leslie of Monroe, N.Y.; Maria F.(Hagar) Cordiano and Michael, of Toms River, N.J. and Suzanne B.(Hagar) Szymanski and Robert, of Glenville, N.Y. He is also survived by two step children: Daniel Winester, of Longmont, CO and Sue (Winester) Schiller and David, of Rutherford, N.J. There are also 10 grandchildren: Faith Ann, Jessica Marie, Megan Jean, Madison Dare', and Peter Jay Hagar; Adam Robert and Jean Adeline Szymanski, Jack and Michael Cordiano, and Halcyone Rose Schiller and several nieces and nephews. Paul's two brothers also survive: Robert K. Hagar and Jaclyn, of Saranac Lake, and Arthur A. Hagar and Jean, of Taylors, S.C. He was predeceased by his parents and his first wife: Jean (Linzalone) Hagar. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Tuesday May 12, 2009 from 4 to 7 PM. Family and friends will share memories at 6:30 PM on Tuesday evening. A graveside service will take place on Wednesday May 13, at 12:00 PM at Mountain View Cemetery in Upper Jay.
