Obituary of Gertrude Farnsworth

Gertrude J. Farnsworth, 80 of Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid and formally of Tupper Lake, died Wednesday April 22, 2009. She was born in Piercefield, NY on July 1, 1928 to Ezra & Katherine (Malark) Provost. Her family moved to Tupper Lake in 1930. Gertrude attended and graduated from local schools. On April 24, 1963, Gertrude married Olvin Farnsworth at St. Alphonse's Church. They made their home in Tupper Lake. Gertrude worked for the local VA Hospital until 1964. After this, she was a stay at home mother and home maker. In the late 70's, Gertrude began cleaning houses for local and seasonal clients. She retired from this in 1997. She was an active member of St. Alphonsus Church, belonging to the choir and participating in other activities. She enjoyed playing Bingo, watching Shirley Temple Movies, and listening to Classic Country and Western Music. Gertrude is survived by her husband of 46 years, Olvin B. Farnsworth of Uihlein Mercy Center Lake Placid. One son, David Farnsworth and his wife Lisa of Plattsburgh, NY. Two grand-daughters, Amy and Ashley Farnsworth of Plattsburgh. Two Sister-in Laws, Theresa Provost and Linda Provost of Tupper Lake, and several nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, and two brothers, Roy and Victor. Calling Hours will be from Noon to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday April 25 at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30p.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will follow at Holy Name Church Cemetery in the family plot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Gertrude's memory to the Alzheimer's Research Association, c/o the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home.
