Obituary of Richard James Buckley

Richard James Buckley, age 59, of 87 Pine Grove Lane, Loon Lake, died Thursday, October 30, 2008 at his home. Born in Potsdam, New York on March 25, 1949, he was the son of Maurice and Esther (Saulnier) Buckley. He married Donna Collins on December 21, 1968 in Assumption of Mary Church in Redford, NY. Richard served 13 months in Vietnam in the 3rd Marine, 3rd Division. He was a member of the Marine Corp. League and was a life time member of the Disabled American Veterans Association. He was and avid reader and loved to follow and discuss politics. He enjoyed and was a wonderful cook, most famous for his Seafood Chowder, Lobster Feast and banana cream pie. Richard loved the outdoors camping and fishing. He especially loved spending time with his grandsons and planning special outings with them. He spent his winters in Florida and loved to travel. He and his wife had enjoyed trips in recent years to Jamaica, Novo Scotia and several New England States. Richard was an avid sky diver, did white water rafting, horseback rider and was a certified Life Guard. He also had a diploma in carpentry. He is survived by his wife Donna Collins Buckley of Loon Lake, NY, one son John Buckley and his wife Nicole of Bloomingdale, NY, six sisters Betty Tucker of South Colton, NY, Alice Matott of Potsdam, NY, Debbie Norman of Star Lake, NY, Mary Jo McDonough of North Carolina, Donna Arquiett of South Colton, NY, and Brendan Boyce of South Colton, NY; one brother Jimmy Buckley of Potsdam, NY, one foster brother Ronald Durrant of Jordan, NY; three grandsons Skyler Buckley, Jesse Buckley and Isaiah Buckley. He was preceded in death by his father; mother, and two brothers David and John Buckley. Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 2:00 PM -4:00 PM and 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM. A Veterans Memorial Association Service will take place at 8:30 PM on Monday evening. A memorial service will immediately follow with Rev. Rick Demers officiating. Friends wishing to remember Richard James Buckley may make memorial contributions to the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department Rescue Squad or the AMerican Diabetes Association in care of the funeral home.
