Obituary of Mae Hyrup

Mae Hyrup, age 106, of Uihlein Mercy Center, Lake Placid died on Oct. 5s 2008 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Lake Placid. She was born Floreda Mary Morrissette on March 5s1902 in Hinckley, N.Y. and was one of 12 children born to Felix and Dorcina (Brunette) Morrissette. She attended school Newport, N.Y. and Ilion, N.Y.. She later worked at Big Moose Lodge where she met George Walter Hyrup. They were married on Sept. 6, 1935 in New York City and moved to Oaklyn, N.J. where George was a veteran of the Hadden Township Police Force until his death Feb. 25, 1968 . After her husbands death she moved back to New York, living in Onchiota, Ilion, and finally Lake Placid where she lived in The Greenwood for many years before moving to Uihlein Mercy Center. She was a past member of the Catholic Daughters, Court of Saint Bernard. Mae loved to read, especially Danielle Steele, and play cards with friends at The Greenwood. Many afternoons were spent watching reruns of The Golden Girls while eating cheesecake and chocolates. She never passed up the chance to hear a good joke or tell a good story and will be dearly missed by her many friends and family. Mae was an aunt to five generations of her family and survived by her son George Thomas Hyrup of Lake Placid, five nieces and one nephew, Laurel Morrisette and Nancy Young of llion, Joyce Countryman of Mohawk, Margaret Hoskyns of Herkimer, Marion Slocum of Newport, Gary Morrisette of Oswego and many grand nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband George Walter Hyrup, brothers Ted, Jack, Vela, Lawrence, Albert and Bill; and sisters Maude and Lucy. Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian Burial is set to take place at 12:00 PM on Wednesday October 29, 2008 at the Uihlein Mercy Center Chapel in Lake Placid with Rev. Patrick O'Reilly officiating. Interment will follow at Merrillsville Cemetery . Friend's whishing to remember Mae Hyrup may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
