Robert Elliott Hentschel died at the age of 86 on Monday, September 7, 2020 at United Helpers Senior Care in Ogdensburg, NY. Born and raised in Ogdensburg, NY, Dr. Hentschel graduated as valedictorian of his high school class at Ogdensburg Free Academy. He then went on to complete his undergraduate degree at the University of Rochester. After earning his medical degree in 1959 from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, Bob completed his surgical internship and residency at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. It was during his time at St. Vincent’s Medical Center that he met his wife of 60 years, Lanne Kraynick, an emergency room nurse. Upon completion of residency, he then served as Captain in the United States Air Force and Chief of the Department of Surgery at Hunter Air Force Base in Savannah, GA. He then returned to St. Vincent’s, where he was an assisting attending surgeon. In 1969, Dr. Hentschel moved his family back to his hometown of Ogdensburg, NY. There he opened his own surgical practice, where he practiced for nearly 50 years. In addition, he was the chief of surgical services and the Chief of Medical Staff at Claxton Hepburn Hospital. Throughout his time in practice he was involved in several local and state medical organizations such as the Ogdensburg Rescue Squad. In 1989, Dr. Hentschel became Regional Medical Director of NY State Department of Corrections. He worked with leading national experts of infectious disease to develop a protocol for treating prisoners infected with HIV/AIDS. When he retired from his surgical practice in 2004, he worked part time at the Rev. Thomas T. Patterson Wound Healing Center until 2016 when he finally made his retirement official. He was a beloved hometown physician who loved his patients and his staff, and no problem was too big or too small for Dr. Hentschel. Bob demonstrated his love of the community of Ogdensburg through his service on the Boards of the Boys/Girls Club, St. Lawrence County Automobile Association and the St. Lawrence Power Squadron. He also served as President of the Board of Trustees of the Frederic Remington Art Museum for several years. Dr. Hentschel had many hobbies and interests. He was a woodworker, and he also loved to build things such as televisions, computers and clocks. He developed a love for the St. Lawrence River as a young boy, and he enjoyed it by waterskiing, boating, and piloting his own airplane over the river. He and Lanne moved to a home on the St. Lawrence in 1984 so they could enjoy the river every day. Dr. Hentschel had many passions, and his greatest was his love for his wife and family. He was the ultimate family man. When his children were young, he took a month off every summer to take them on a family boat trip. As his family grew, his love and involvement with them grew exponentially. His grandchildren called him “Bob” and received his undivided attention and interest. He is survived by his wife, Jolanne (Lanne) Kraynick Hentschel, his children, Susan H. Tully (Tom) of Yardley, PA; James E. Hentschel (Juliet) of Bloomfield Hills, MI; Kathleen H. Stewart (Don) of Charlotte, NC; William R. Hentschel (Mary) of Niwot, Colorado; and his grandchildren, Tom and Katie Tully; Elizabeth and Jacqueline Hentschel; Emily and Will Stewart; and Adelaide Hentschel. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert A. Hentschel and Kathaleen Farley Hentschel. A private memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 10th. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bob’s memory to Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center Foundation, 214 King Street, Ogdensburg, NY 13669, the Morristown Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O. My Tribute Gift Foundation makes this online charitable giving portal web page MyTributeGift.org (the “Website”) available to you subject to your acceptance of and compliance with these terms of use (the “Terms of Use”). Your donation will be processed through My Tribute Gift Foundation for distribution to your selected charity. Your credit card transaction record will appear as My Tribute Gift Foundation. An official tax receipt for your donation will be issued by My Tribute Gift Foundation. Donations are sent out to charities at the end of each month for all donations received in that previous month. So a donation made on the first day of the month would be sent at the same time as one made on last day. Payments would be sent either by paper check or direct deposit. Please note that the there is 3% + 35¢/transaction fee for credit card processing, My Tribute Gift Foundation collects a 5% administrative fee. These fees help fund the cost of processing all donations, issuing tax receipts, and sending all appropriate information to the selected charity. These fees are assumed by your selected charity, but you will receive a receipt for the full amount of your donation. There are NO additional costs the charity has to endure to participate and accept donations through MyTributeGift.org. According to the American Institute for Philanthropy (charitywatch.org) a charitable organization is considered “Good” if they are spending less than 30% on administration and fundraising costs. My Tribute Gift Foundation helps reduce those administrative costs for charities and allows donors to contribute to lasting memorials for their loved ones.
When donating online, if the donation form has an option to add a tip, there is no convenience fee. The tip is optional and can be adjusted before you submit your donation. The amount of the tip will be displayed to you before you confirm the charge to your payment card. Tips are in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount that goes to the charitable organization. Under IRS and CRA rules, tips are not tax deductible to the donor.
You warrant and represent that all information and materials you provide to My Tribute Gift Foundation, through the Website or otherwise, are accurate and truthful and do not violate third party rights. Indemnity. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS THE FOUNDATION PARTIES FROM AND AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, DEMANDS, ACTIONS, SUITS AND PROCEEDINGS BROUGHT BY YOU OR ANY THIRD PARTY (COLLECTIVELY "CLAIMS") ARISING OUT OF YOUR USE OF THIS SITE IN BREACH OF THESE TERMS OF USE OR THE INFRINGEMENT BY YOU OF ANY INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OF ANY PERSON OR ENTITY, INCLUDING ALL LOSSES, LIABILITIES, DAMAGES, COSTS AND EXPENSES (INCLUDING ALL LEGAL FEES) ARISING FROM SUCH CLAIMS.
If in any part of these Terms of Use is held, by a court of competent jurisdiction, to be invalid or unenforceable, such part of these Terms of Use shall be eliminated to the extent permitted in that jurisdiction, for purposes of that jurisdiction, and the remaining Terms of Use shall otherwise remain in full force and effect.
These Terms of Use and your use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and all federal laws of Canada applicable therein. The courts of the Province of Ontario shall have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of these Terms of Use or your use of the Website.
These Terms of Use constitute the entire agreement between you and My Tribute Gift Foundation with respect to the Website, except as we may explicitly agree otherwise in writing.. No delay or failure to exercise any right with respect to these Terms of Use shall be construed as a waiver by My Tribute Gift Foundation.
As a donor, you are responsible for researching the charity, understanding how your money will be used, and understanding the tax implications of your donation. We will email you a receipt, but the deductibility of your donation depends on your individual tax situation. We are not financial, tax, or legal experts. Please do not rely on our information to make decisions about your finances, taxes or legal matters. Consult a qualified professional in your jurisdiction.
Participating organizations have chosen to actively participate in the “Sponsor Program” to be represented in the Sponsor Charity array in an effort to increase their exposure and the opportunity for more memorial donations to be made to their organization. A rate structure is agreed upon and assessed on each donation processed through that program according to each organization’s individual agreement. Giving through that program has helped many organizations realize a drastic and significant increase in net donations.
If a donation form has a line item of Convenience Fee. The Convenience fee is displayed to you prior to approving the charge to your payment card. The convenience fee is in addition to the donation amount, so they do not affect the amount reaching the charitable organization. For example, a $100 donation becomes a $101.50 transaction. The convenience fee is directed immediately to a for-profit service provider. According to IRS and CRA rules the tax deductible receipt will therefore only be issued for the subtotal amount.
My Tribute Gift Foundation seeks to distribute all funds to organizations provided they have maintained active 501c3 certification in the United States or registered charity status in Canada. MTG relies on the beneficiary organizations to maintain and keep up to date contact information on file with the IRS or CRA respectively. This must be done in order for My Tribute Gift Foundation to exercise care and reasonable efforts to distribute payment promptly, without undue cost and burden to the foundation. In the event that a payment has not been deposited 12 months from issuance, the foundation reserves the right to utilize those funds in its mission to the foundation.
My Tribute Gift Foundation reserves the right to modify, change, discontinue and suspend these Terms of Use, the Website, and/or any services offered through the Website, in whole or in part, at any time, without prior notice to you. Your continued access or use of the Website after modifications to these Terms of Use have been posted on the Website shall indicate your acceptance of and agreement to be bound by these Terms of Use as modified. It is your responsibility to review these Terms of Use regularly.
